Advice Direct Scotland

Advice Direct Scotland provides free and independent advice to the citizens of Scotland. The online identity of Advice Direct Scotland is advice.scot. Work in partnership with a network of national organisations providing practical advice by phone, SMS, web chat, email, online and through social media on a wide range of issues such as debt, employment, welfare and consumer advice. As well as offering traditional telephone-based advice can also offer advice via the website, webforms, webchat and Facebook chat.

Advice Direct Scotland - Consumer Advice

Advice Direct Scotland delivers the national consumer advice service in partnership with the Scottish Government, Trading Standards Scotland and local Trading Standards offices. Provides all Scottish citizens with practical, relevant and free consumer advice and information. Use intelligence collated from Scottish consumers to combat illegal traders and improve the services that customers receive. This service was launched in April 2019 following the devolution of consumer advocacy and advice under the Scotland Act 2016.

The dementia helpline is a freephone 24 hour service providing information and emotional support to people with dementia, carers, relatives, friends and professionals. Operate an e-mail service for anyone who is affected by dementia in any way or who has questions about this illness. Alzheimer Scotland provides day care and day opportunity services in many parts of Scotland. Calls to 0808 80 numbers are free to call from landlines and mobiles within the UK.

AMINA - The Muslim Women's Resource Centre

AMINA - The Muslim Women's Resource Centre

Information, advice and listening support for Muslim women. Help with a range of concerns including family matters, marriage, domestic abuse, racial harassment, immigration, Shariah, education, employment, finance, housing, health, social isolation and leisure activities suitable for Muslim women. Part of the Muslim Women's Resource Centre which provides a drop-in centre, information, advice, advocacy, counselling, including bereavement. Referrals and signposting to specialist services when required.

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland

Free confidential Advice Line service provides support and information for people living with lung disease, heart disease and stroke. In addition we give advice to families, carers, and health and social care professionals across Scotland. Specialist Advice Line nurses provide a supportive listening ear, together with health advice based on Scottish and UK clinical guidelines. Further support includes free chest, heart and stroke booklets and factsheets, and other related health information, which can be sent via email or post.

Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland

Helpline offering emotional support after a bereavement. Initial support is usually given over the telephone. Further support includes webchat, face-to-face support, leaflets, support groups and support for children and young people. Calls to 0808 80 numbers are free from landlines and mobiles in the UK and do not appear on itemised bills.

The helpline provides a range of general disability related information to disabled people, carers, professionals, disability organisations and anyone with an interest in disability issues. The helpline can deal with issues including benefit enquiries, employment, discrimination cases, equipment, grants and trusts, access, holiday information and signpost to local sources of help and advice. New helpline text service available charged at standard network rates. The new service aims to provide a quicker way for callers to get in touch as well as enabling the Team to provide a call back service for people who request one.

Confidential helpline offering advice and guidance on dyslexia-related issues in Scotland. Helpline enquiries can be made by telephone, email or webchat. The Helpline is run by trained and experienced staff and volunteers who can provide advice or signpost to various resources and relevant organisations.

Edinburgh Crisis Centre

Edinburgh Crisis Centre

Helpline manned 24 hours a day by trained crisis centre staff providing emotional support to callers. The Team can help deal with issues including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, self harm, suicide, hearing voices. Staff also support the caller to develop a short term crisis plan identifying informal support and local community based formal support. Can also provide practical support. This can include accessing information and specialist advice about welfare benefits and debt, housing information services including homelessness services, substance misuse and relationship difficulties. The Centre has facilities for visitors to stay overnight when this is agreed. Calls to 0808 80 numbers are free from landlines and mobiles in the UK.

Edinburgh Nightline is a confidential and non-judgemental support and information service, run by students, for students. Our listening volunteers ensure every student has the opportunity to talk about their feelings in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Nightline is not an advice line but a volunteer can provide information, if requested, such as taxi numbers, exam times, business opening hours, contact information for health services, etc.
