Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline
The Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline offers emotional support for people concerned about their mental health or that of someone they know. The helpline provides a safe space to talk through worries and concerns in complete confidence, and for some, it can be a life changing service.
The helpline is available to those over 18 years old, living in Staffordshire, who may be going through a difficult time and feel that there is no one else to talk to. The helpline team is professionally trained to provide emotional support, encouragement and guidance about a variety of other local support services.
The Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline is a confidential service that will:
- Listen to worries and concerns
- Support those when it’s needed most
- Inform about services that may be able to help
- Help to plan the next steps
For additional support during the weekend, the Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline also offers a ring-out service. This service allows the helpline to call people who have been referred in by a professional, at an agreed time, between Friday evening and Sunday evening.
The Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline has been awarded with the Helplines Standard, which accredits best practice in helpline work, 3 times consecutively. The standard ensures customers that they are receiving an excellent quality service from highly trained staff, which in turn allows the Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline to sustain a valuable and much needed service.
The Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline operates an out of hours service, when most other mainstream mental health services are closed, evenings and weekends 365 days a year, to ensure support is continued when it may be needed most. The helpline is open from 7pm – 2am weekdays, and from 2pm – 2am at weekends.
People who need our help can call the helpline on 0808 800 2234 (free from landlines and major mobile networks), email [email protected], or text 07860 022821. An instant messaging service is also available at www.brighter-futures.org.uk
The Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline has a Special Freephone Tariff (SFT), meaning that it is a free phone service, which is therefore accessible to all. The SFT also means that the helpline phone number is not displayed on any phone bill, allowing for a completely confidential and anonymous service.
Individual callers have referred to the helpline as a ‘lifeline’:
- “I don’t know where I would be without the helpline,.. it helps so much to talk”
- “if I didn’t have the helpline I really don’t know what I’d do”
- “the helpline is a source of strength for me”
- “I really think this helpline has saved my life”
To find out more about the ring-out service or to make a referral, call 01782 406000 and ask for the Helpline Manager (Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm).
